Ah, the joys of living in a red state.

So, today, I logged into my Facebook account to find dozens of status updates from "friends" about how they ate Chick-Fil-A for both breakfast AND lunch.

(Note: For many of them, this is probably just a normal Wednesday.  But since Mike Huckabee told them so, they're now eating deep-fried chicken sandwiches to express their support for "traditional marriage," not just because they like fatty, deep-fried foods.)

And that wasn't the only evidence I had that this Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day was kind of a big deal.  Driving by the Chick-Fil-A in Frisco, Texas, at 2 PM today, I saw a line of cars in the drive-thru that literally circled the entire building.  Possibly more than once.

The irony in all of this is that as much as conservatives like to accuse all of us of being mindless drones who follow the dictates of the "liberal" media, college professors, they are in fact the ones who are not free thinkers.  Mike Huckabee tells all of them to go to Chick-Fil-A on August 1 to stick it to those dirty liberals who want to tell them how to think, and guess what?  That's exactly what they do.

They think this is about liberals waging a war on Christianity.  No.  There is no war on Christianity.  There is a war on bigotry, and all too often, bigotry is shrouded in "Christian beliefs." As much as they like to pretend they don't, they really do hate gays, and simply use a few Biblical passages to feel better about themselves.

Of course, that's not Christianity.  Jesus Christ did not preach intolerance and hatred.  But a certain group of Christians have decided to say that, well, actually, intolerance and hatred are what Christianity's all about.

If they want to call the war on bigotry a war on Christianity, let them.  But those of us who are Christians and don't buy into the warped Robertson/Falwell/Huckabee version of Christianity know that it is not.
